I read the sticky "conversion out of sync" and I have a question.
I followed the directions. ( I originally had a 1.5 hour 700mb avi VBR movie) After I followed the directions, I had an uncompressed PCM movie file that was 1.5GB. Should the file have increased that much (from 700MB to 1.5GB)? If that is expected, then when I convert this 1.5GB file to a DVD, I would expect that the video quality would be much worse (after converting VBR to PCM) because now a huge amount of file space (about 800MB) is wasted on the PCM audio, and therefore less space on the final DVD will be available for the video. So, should I leave the audio as uncompressed PCM, or should I convert the PCM to mp3 CBR? And just for the record, could you please give me a step by step process how to (using Virtualdubmod) convert the PCM to CBR mp3.

You're wrong on all accounts. 1.5 GB is OK. In the conversion to DVD, the audio will be converted to DVD specs audio, and it doesn't matter if its LPCM or VBR mp3 (besides the whole point of this, VBR audio is hard for encoders to deal with). Leave the audio uncompressed.

the video quality will be no different no matter what the audio source is, if the output audio to the dvd is the same, say ac3 2ch. there will be the same amount of space left for the video. the video quality of the output is only influenced by the quality of avi. if you expect dvd quality from a single 700mb avi you will most likely be disappointed anyway as the bitrate is way too low for 90 min.

Ok, I got what you're saying about leaving the audio as uncompressed PCM. However, might there be some circumstance where you want to convert uncompressed PCM audio in a movie to mp3 CBR? Just for the record, can you please give me a simple step by step precedure how to do this (using Virtualdubmod)?
Also, as far as converting a 1.5 hour 700mb avi movie to DVD, I think as long as there is not a lot of rapid motion in the picture, I think the resulting DVD is a little better than VHS tape. However, during scenes of rapid motion, I notice a degradation of clarity. -
