i was just wondering if anyone out ther has put a mod chip in their ps2. if so, how well does it work with backups and vcds?

  2. i put one in my ps1 and it works great. wiring was pretty easy. i don't know about the ps2 though. i personally wouldn't take the chace of screwing up $300 machine. you might want to investigate the external mod-chip that plugs into the usb port. all i can say is i've heard about it......

  3. I've heard bad things about the external chip. not reliable, uses the gameshark to boot games, etc.

yeah, with the external usb chip you still have to open up the ps2 and solder 1 wire, thereby voiding the warrenty. and u still have to buy the gameshark. i dont think i will risk losing my warrenty because i already had to take it in for service last year because the drive motor broke. that would have been a $200 fix but i had the warrenty. i think i will wait for one that u dont have to open up the ps2

I looked into the internal mod chips the other day - The PS1 was simple by contrast, I have seen the wiring diagrams for the PS2 and it looks very fiddley work. You will need a steady hand and a really small soldering iron with a micro tip to do a good job. Most of the connections will be hard to get a good connection on.
I modded my PS1 myself, it was pretty simple. But I decided to leave off doing my PS2 for a while, besides I only got it at christmas... still playing GTA3 so I dont need a mod chip yet...

    $200 for a new motor?
LOL, you could buy a new PS2 for that!

but their r developing a hard drive and net access.

so wouldn't it be easier (if possible) for someone to devlop a downloadable hack of the firmware that disables the "check for bad sectors" commands that make copying impossible?

  9. *is getting a ps2 soon*

I talked to a guy at another message board. He has a Ps2 w/Neo2.2 installed and he's giving it to me for a psone w/ 17 backups and 100$. Thats pretty good considering I don't have the guts to install a chip myself and I can't wait to get GTA3 :P

  10. On ps2 systems, there are modchips out for them. From what i understand is the ps2 will only play ps games, not ps2. For one thing is the ps2 disk is capable to hold up to 12 gig. of dvd rom. So, don't fall for anything that claims you can play copied ps2 games.

everyone eventually turns to pc m8- more versitile that a swiss army knife- and better for most games (the one exception being beat-em-ups)
1)Why Not Overclock a little?! speed 4 free!!!!
    2) If your question has anything to do with copying PS2/PC/XBox games, find a more appropriate website

From what I understand a lot of PS2 games are still on CD media, even so I see no reason why you cannot play backed up DVD media games. I am sure there are people on these boards who have done just that.

I'll put in my 2cents of decently researched data, thought it might be a bit out of date at this point. Meaning the info is about a year old.

Yes you can backup games, alot of them are still CDs, you can tell by looking at the games bottom color. About a year ago 99% of the DVD Games were DVD5s with just a couple of exceptions.

I love my PS2 to much to EVER risk my shaky hands soldering around inside of it. But to each their own I guess. I payed 200 dollars for my PS2 and only have about 200 in games. So its not worth it to worry about some type of backup solution that requires that level of modding.

I stumbled acorss this one at a friends house. It won't play a VCD on CDR, but played a PAL DVD-R just fine (and converted it to NTSC).

i have a no-solder modchip installed in my v7 ps2 and it plays burned copies. but since i dont have a dvd burner yet, i can only play burned ps2 CD-ROM games. so modchips do work. but i did open my ps2 so i hope my ps2 wont have problems where i have to return it or something.

just some information for anyone who was considering a modchip....
