I am having a couple problems video-wise on my CPU.

    1. I have a DVD-ROM drive, but a while ago, my computer stopped installing some of the drivers and software off of my restore CDs. What software do I need to begin playing DVD's again?

    2. Riva FLV player is giving me lag on the audio. Is this normal?

    1. Can you see the files on the dvd if you use windows explorer ? Or can't it read dvds at all?

    2. Try another flv player like VLC Media Player.

  4. Seems to me you don't need new software, but new hardware...

Before replacing the drive , clean it , failing that , check the cable has not come loose or failing , it happens .

If you have replaced the cable attached to the drive and mainboard , try swapping the drives power connectors with any freely available units inside the case .

If it works from then on , psu might have an issue you are unaware of , it happens .

If it still has issues , then a new unit would be required .

I would also verify that it is having issues with commercial discs and discs that you burned. If it can read commercial discs and not your burned discs, then it is most likely the result of cheap/failing media.
