Hey folks, nice forum, first post:

kinda new to HD. Just got a Hauppage HVR-4000 which has digital satelitte input. I can get the BBC HD test broadcasts off Sky dish input and the broadcasts look amazing on my display (1920*1200).

Problem I have is when I record programs off the HD feed. The product info states the card records to the HDD "in the original high quality MPEG-2 format", GSpot just advises "MPeg2 Transport Stream" -but nothing else..

When I attempt playback the sound sync goes awry. My pc is surely powerful enough...

Can anyone point me to an video editing app (that allows trimming at least) that really can handle these files, and how can I best make the files smaller, yet still good-quality HD for uploading on Usenet & BitTorrent?

    Thanks in anticipation.

    pc Spec: QX6700 @ 4x3.5Ghz, 2GB PC8500, MSI 8800GTX, Asus P5B Deluxe WiFi Edn.

    Try videoredo for cutting,joining.

Convert to smaller files with megui...a bit complex but you will get very good quality if you use h264. But just don't upload copyrighted material to usenet and bittorrent...

I do use VideoRedo for my other video trimming work, I love it, but it does not yet handle h.264

I have no experience with h264 ts. See http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=114361

Or wait until videoredo add h264 support.

Thx for the link. I will try and follow the info there, just a cursory read reveals it is indeed a bit of an awkward job.

    Cheers
