  1. I am trying to store some video files onto a DVD as data files, but there are characters in non-English language in the filename. When I try to burn them using Nero, the filenames show up as bunch of jumbo codes. Is there a tool of some sort that would allow me to burn these files with proper filenames?

Right click on them and change their names. Simple as that.

  4. I don't want to rename the filenames because I want to maintain them in their original names.

Not all file systems support all character sets. You may have no other option than renaming them, to get rid of the "jumbu codes".

I want to run Windows Vista on my GameCube. I can't, you can't, deal with it.

Telling what language the files are in would have been helpful as some of us might have some experience with it. For example, I have some experience dealing with Cyrillic character sets. This is how I would deal with your problem under Cyrillic. Under Control Panel, select "Date, Time, Language and Regional Options". Then select "Regional and Language Options". Then select "Advanced" and for "Language for non-Unicode Programs" I would change it to "Russian". This change will require a reboot, but in theory Nero should now recognize the character set you want to use, if that character set has already been installed on your PC. If not, you'll have to install the character set in the "Regional and Language Options" tab.

Good luck. In my opinion it's not worth the hassle. I'd just stick with English ASCII characters as every version of Windows can read them with no problems.

  8. koberulz, I was going to ignore this but I find your comments quite offensive. Some of us may be "newbies", but something as simple as "renaming files" is child's play. If that was the only option I would not have bothered posting the question here seeking others' expertise. If you don't have anything constructive to say then please don't say anything. The characters are in one of the asian languages, and I believe they are chinese. It's not possible to run Vista on Gamecube, so that's just a "dumbass" statement that's extremely poor in comparison of the situation. On the other hand, I like to think those folks in China have been able to burn their files with filenames in chinese onto their DVDs, so this should be doable.

  9. jman98, thanks very much for your suggestion. I fiddled around with the regional language setting and it worked. I was able to burn these files in their native language filenames.

Gamecube still cannot run Windows Vista.
