Has anyone had any experience with this machine or even LG recorders in general?

I am interested in a DVD recorder with a hard drive that can burn +DL media and ofers the ability to record in standard and FR modes. Pioneer DVR-640 is my top choice, but they are almost impossible to find and they are being high-jacked on ebay.

    Thanks.

If you search a bit through previous topics in DVD recorder section, you can find a few topics about LG recorders.
Here I described my LG RH188S:

I've used that machine daily for last 5 months and I haven't noticed any faults.

I did not like the 519. It was more like a computer and less like an easy DVD recorder. It also did something weird on encoding, everything had "digital" look to it. I think the interlace was messed up somehow. And then it was pitiful quality past 2 hours.

The whole machine was weird. It runs Microsoft firmware.

  6. I have not seen a LG recorder that can do FR mode, but have seen in another forum where a reviewer said it did. LG's do have a timer recording mode ( AT for auto ) in which the recorder determines the remaining time left on a disk and makes a decision about which mode to use based on the start and end time entered in the timer, but it is still choosing from XP, SP, LP, etc.

They may be confusing this with FR mode in which, for example, a tape is 1 hour, 10 minutes long and the recorder chooses a resolution and bitrate to fill the disk as can be found in other brands.
