i want to take a homemade DVD with 2 titles and a menu and remove one title and the menu then insert a first play before the remaining title. I want to use PgcEdit to do this. Can anyone help? Also how can I learn the language of PgcEdit.? I want to learn how to use it but i don't understand the basic terminology it uses. Whats the best way to learn the vocabulary and learn how to use the commands?

You really want to get rid of the menu as well? I.E. insert dvd, first-play clip plays, then remaining title plays, meaning no menu between firstplay clip and title? Guess it makes sense since there is one title.

If that's what you want, the simplest brain-dead method is:
    1. Use DVDshrink in reauthor mode to get rid of unwanted title and menu.
    2. Open resulting dvd in pgcEdit
    3. Inserting first-play clip using PgcEdit's "Insert Firstplay (startup) clip" macro under PgcEdit's Macro menu.
    4. Save and burn. Done.

If you have a programming background, you can learn some things just by studying DVD files opened using this program. There are also some guides on this site involving PgcEdit , if you haven't already read them. Not specifically about the language, but still useful.

I saw some reference books for sale online, but I can't recommend one. I just couldn't justify the expense based on what I wanted to do. I used Google to find them.

I'd rather not use DVDShrink because it will reencode everything. PgcEdit won't reencode (at least to my knowledge it won't) so I'd rather use that program for the job. Google is a good idea to learn what the various commands mean - I'll try that. Maybe I can figure it out.

If the titles are contained in separate VOB's and not joined together this might work.

    1. Creat a VIDEO_TS folder on your hard drive
    2. Select "New DVD" in the File Menu, and open the folder you created.
    3. When prompted select NTSC or PAL (whichever is correct) as the DVD standard.
    4. Select "Import VTST Title" and copy the one you want to keep.
    5. Select "Save DVD" in the File Menu
    6. Left click on the imported title and delete all the commands shown in the right-hand window.
    7. Select "Save DVD" in the File menu
    8. Insert the first-play clip using PgcEdit's "Insert Firstplay (Startup) Clip" macro found in the Macro menu.

I haven't tried step 8. The rest should work.

Reauthor Mode -- DvdShrink won't reencode anything if set to 100% (Dial it up to say DL in preferences)

The "language" Pgcedit uses is the Dvd standard -- You also have to learn the layout (finicky) The learning curve is steep
    DVDShrinks your best bet

I'm not sure what DL is?
I have version 3.2.0.15, is there a newer one?

    In DvdShrink>>Edit>>Preferences
Select dvd-9 (8.5Gb thats Dl or dual layer)
And since the target size will be smaller then 8.5Gb DvdShrink (reauthor mode) will just copy the title you want to target folder -- add basic navigation and you are done

You can also just set Compression to No Compression and ignore the warning DVD Shrink gives you.
