Pinnacle Studio is famous for crashing. It has been going on through 10+ versions. If you want entertainment, visit their support forums. If you want an improbable video game experience, try their beta test program.
That isn't to say other programs won't crash. I'm trying to think of another that does like that .... but it does happen so I've heard.
I can't recall an encode crash that I've experienced other than a disk full situation.
I've heard Roxio can be rough. I don't know. I last used them for version 5 (before DVD). -
Enough of memory lane, what kind of camcorder and computer do you have?

I don't use the actual editing software for burning. The way I do it is to create the DVD files with Adobe Premiere Elements, but instead of burning it to a disc, you can choose to burn it to a folder on your computer instead. I had plenty of discs turned into coasters before I realized there was a better way. So now I burn it to a folder, then use seperate burning software (sonic record now dx works fine) and haven't had a coaster since. Hopefully other software gives similar options.
