  1. I have a dvd that I made from a vhs tape with a standalone dvd/vhs combo set top.

    Now that i have the dvd I need to transfer it over to my pc and edit some of the clips out of it and maybe make chapters, titles, etc. I realize I can search google but I'd really like some first hand recommendations on software from someone that has done similar.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    I second that.

    One tip from personal experience: To cut bits out with a minimal need for re-encoding (i.e. around the cut area, rather than a large part of the footage), place the whole un-edited footage on the timeline and use the cut tool in the section to the right of the timeline.

    Cut either side of the section to be removed and then delete the section.

    I was doing cuts in the input window and finding that large parts of my footage was being re-encoded, meaning a reduction in quality.

    That's usually the result of incompatible media. You can check to the left under DVD players for compatibility

  6. Well, ht eproblem was when I would burn tivo files to dvd. When I would do it with Sonic MyDVD it would no fast forward/rewind, etc. but it would play fine. Then I tried another program (using the same media) and itwouldn't even play.

    @de8212,

    For my TIVO to go transfers I use the Direct Show Dump Utility to free them of their DRM corruption. Then I use TDA to edit out commericals and author.
