  1. Okay, I have an MKV and it uses an AAC Audio stream. I wanted to put this into an AVI file but I can't do it with Virtual Dub because it won't accept this kind of audio. I also cannot change the AAC into anything because for some very weird reason, it refuses to convert to any format regardless of the program I use. What I need is a program or a method of bringing the AAC audio and the video into the same file. Can someone please help me?

    super, converts AAC audio,

you say you can't convert the audio

did you extract the streams from the MKV container

the IMO the MKV container is your obstacle not the AAC audio

Dl mkvtoolnix and install it, then DL and unzip mkvextractgui and place it in the folder created by mkvtoolnix

use the extrac tool get the video stream and the AAC audio stream then convert and mux as needed

You can't put AAC into the avi container.
If you want to keep AAC and switch containers you can use the mp4 container.

You should be able to convert AAC to say mp3 with many a tool.
    What have you tried?

It's only slightly more complicated if AAC is 5.1 and you want to keep 5.1 audio.

  4. To convert aac to mp3, I use first audio2wav to convert to wav.
Then I use Adobe Audition to convert to mp3. No matter how many streams they are, Audition will split the one wav file into multiple waves. But I just "downsize" to one stream and convert to mp3. I don't bother with ac3 or other audiotype as mp3 is enough quality for me. Afterward use virtualdubmod to join video and audio.

super will extract & convert the aac to mp3 or ac3 without the video, just chose ac3 only OR check disable video
