Anyone able to help on fixing the aspect ratio of an avi file so it doesnt show the black lines at the top/bottom? I've always previously converted things from avi to dvd files and had no problem. I've recently bought an divx/xvid player though so when I'm just burning the avi's straight to a dvd without converting it, it plays with the the black lines across it.

    Any help appreciated

    Thanks

Can't you use any zoom functions on your dvd player? Or learn how to watch movies in original aspect ratio instead of pan and scan or fullscreen.

Didn't think of using the zoom so thanks. The thing that confuses me though is when I used to convert it to dvd, there was an option that said 'maintain aspect ratio 16:9' which I just left it on, the picture took up the full screen then and was perfect. Now that I'm just saving avi's straight to disc though, I was wondering if there was a program I could use to 'maintain aspect ratio 16:9' so to speak?

If the original movie happened to be, say 1.85:1 or 2.35:1 it would have letterboxing EVEN when shown on a 16x9 monitor using "maintain aspect ratio 16:9".
It's hard to say, since you don't quote specifics, like whether the files use an AR flag (and whether your player supports it), or even where you're getting these AVIs from in the first place (careful there)...
