Basically what I'm looking for is a simple filter for VirtualDub which searches for timecode data in a DV stream and pastes it into a corner like a proper camcorder might. I'm sure this is a commonly-sought capability. Primarily I'm interested in determining whether or not the Digital8 camcorder I'm using to move 8mm/Hi8 videos to the PC is bothering to do anything with the timecode information which may be extant in said videos. Forcing VirtualDub to produce a visual representation of the DV video's timecode would be a convenient way of accomplishing this, without having to, say, let Premiere Pro spend 12 hours building peaks on a 27GB file.

    Thanks in advance.

Haven't seen a filter for vdub, but if oyu look under DV in the Tools section you will several tools that can extract date/timecode information and turn them into subtitles. These can easily be applied using vdub filters afterwards.

There's a filter called AddFrameNumber.vdf available from Thomas Hargrove that should do what you want. A google search should locate it for you.
