  1. I have 2 PC. The older PC (slower CPU) has H10N and the newer one has H50N.

    When I make backup copies of movies, H10N always gives perfect burns. On the other hand, the backup copies made from H50N usually have a few freezed frames as viewed by the same DVD player. The media I use is Verbatim 16X DVD+R.

    I noticed that while H10N burns at 16X, H50N burns at 18X. When I am burning DVD, I usually do not work on the PC much.

    What can I do to eliminate these freezed frames? Should I set the burn speed at 16X?

    Try burning at a slower speed of 8x or 12x speed. Turn off programs running in the background as well because it can affect the burning process. Best bet is to lower the speed to 8x or 12x.

  3. So, guess Nero's Determine Maximum Speed is useless.

    I will set the speed to 12X next time.

    I would lower the burn speed to 8 or below,I prefer 6x . And I would switch to the DVD-R media instead of the +. To me i seem to have less freezing problems with the -R and it is more compatable on a lot of home dvd players. especially older ones.

    Using DVD+R has nothing to do with freezing problems it's the speed of the burning process that can cause problems. IMHO both formats are equal with the exception of some older standalone dvd players aren't able to play DVD+R media. But some can play them back if the disc is booktyped to dvdrom.

  6. I agree with budz comments and I'll add my two cents to boot. The H10N is an LG based on the Renesas chipset and the H50N is based on the Matsushita chipset. The H50N is pretty new and I have no hands on experience with it but I have had with some of it's fore-runners like the H22N. I do have an H10N. I prefer the Renesas chipped drives if I had to settle for one or the other. I would try 12x (assuming those are Verbatim +R 16x with an id = MCC 004) with both those drives. My experience has shown no improvement that I can discern from dropping to 8x on any MCC 004's I have ever burned with any LG. Good luck.

  7. Does the H22N have the Renesas chipset or Matsushita chipset ?

    The H22N has a Matsushita chip - here's some info:

    LG's numbering schemes are very confusing. For the most part (of late anyways) they work like this:
    H1x = Renesas
    H2x = Matsushita
    H3x = Matsushita (SATA)
    H4x = Renesas
    H5x = Matsushita

    Let me also voice a preference for the Renesas chipsets.

    So far I have had good burns at 18x on Verbatim DVD+R on my relatively new H42L

    I have had good burns at 16x with any supported 16x media on my H10N and my now deceased 4163B over a long time period. I see no reason to burn at less than rated speed on any of the LG Renessas based drives.

  11. After some readings, I am also convinced that the Renesas chips are superior than its Matsushita counerparts.

    Problem is I checked a few local retail stores and they carried only H2x and H5x.

    I have the LGH62L 18x speed drive which I bought from BEST BUY a few months ago. I've had no problems with my burns. I only use TY & VERBATIM dvd media.

    BEST BUY LGH62L drive, $49.99 which has lightscribe and the RENESAS chipset.

  14. Not sure if Newegg ships to Canada. Even if it does, I would have to pay custom charge.

    I do see H62L in my local store (Toronto) but it is SATA drive.

    Sorry I didn't mention it was a SATA drive. Do you have any SATA on your motherboard? You could also use a PCI SATA CONTROLLER CARD for the LGH62L drive.
