I have a mkv file that uses h264 codec. I used MKVExtractGUI to extract everything. Then I used avc2avi to convert the raw h264 to avi then I merge the audio & video in virtualdub but when I play it the audio is unsync. Why is that?

Maybe a h264 with variable frame rate(vfr), see https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=1656988#1656988

Whenever you have audio sync problems the first thing to check is your fps, are you working with a pal or ntsc video?
