  1. I did a search and found this guide "Merge previously split DVDs with DvdReMake Pro" from 2004. The info and link is at the bottom.

    My Questions
    1. Is this still the best way to merge as of now April 2007 or anyone know a better method?

    2. If you wanted to split a DVD9 now what method of splitting would be the best to do if your intentions were to merge them in the future back to as close as you can get to the original DVD9?

    3. If I had a DVD9 that was in the public domain and the main movie & menu could fit uncompressed on a single DVD5 and the extras with menu on a second DVD5. I wanted to share them using a bit torrent client and tracker site. They would be shared as 2 torrents one for main movie and one for extras. If someone waned only the movie they could download that if the extra then that one. What would be the best way to create the DVD5's and the best way for those who wanted to create 1 DVD9 from these 2 DVD5's?

    4. If the main movie was more than 1 DVD5 uncompressed I guess you could make a torrent directory with all the files and subdirectories then the down loader could just select the main movie VOB, ifo and or menu VTS_VIDEO.VOB or ?

How to backup DVD to DVD±R/W Complex
Merge previously split DVDs with DvdReMake Pro

In this guide we will show how to merge two DVD disks which were created when one DVD9 was split into two DVD5 disks. Of course splitted disks had menus and we would like to keep menus (chapters selection, etc) in merged disk. Just to illustrate that DvdReMake can handle multiangle DVDs we will use multiangle disk (StarWars Episode II: "Attack of the Clones") as an example.

    Thank you,

  2. Well I tried this since I first posted this new subject earlier

I ripped with DVD FAB Platinum and auto split into two disk main movie on first with menus , trailers it fit with room to spare. The menus 2 other extra video files and the same 2 trailers appeared on second DVD5 iso also. I now copied the directory structure and all files in to 2 separate DVD directories on HD.

    1st & 2nd DVD5's had VIDEO_TS.ifo ,bfo, & VOB same size for both
1st DVD5 had main movie in all VTS_01.x.xxx 2nd DVD5 reduced size VTS.01.x.xxx and missing VTS.01.x.VOB's AS EXPECTED
1st DVD5 had equal and reduced files VTS.02.x.xxx and missing (VTS.02.2.VOB compared to 2nd DVD5
This was the same as VTS.02.X.XXX for all VTS.03.x.xxx
VTS.04.x.xxx and VTS.05.x.xxx were both the same (trailers and slides) on both disk.

NEXT WHAT I DID THAT WORKED.

I copied all VTS.02.x.xxx & VTS.03.x.xxx from 2nd DVD5 and overwrote or added all of these to the 1st DVD5 sub Directory VIDEO_TS.

I know opened that directory in DVD Shrink and was able to create a working burnable DVD9 ISO file then I also created a shrinked down DVD5 ISO that also worked.

I couldn't believe it worked and was that easy.

I am doubtful it will be as easy if I have a complex DVD9 with the Main movie spread accross both layers and weird placement of some extras on or as part of the main movie VOB's as some of the newer disc do.

If anyone has more knowledge to contribute please do so.
It would be super if someone could create a good working guide for some of this. At least for the DVD9 that I tried this way worked so much easier then the referenced one I mentioned in my initial post.

Thank you for any contributions you may have for this process.

Did you ever try it the way I described to you last month?

The only thing is the extras usually won't be watchable by itself. But at the time you asked how to separate the main movie from the extras (in order to leave people the option to download movie-only)....and then to later merge them back together to create a workable full DVD.
