Would there be any quality loss when ripping DVD's to xvid (or a better codec) to the hard drive, and then eventually re-encoding them for DVD's so that i can save space on the hard drive? Is there any guides for things like this? Any tips? I want to back up all my DVD's in my home to my hdd and be able to some day (if needed) put them back on dvd if the originals get destroyed or soemething.
thanks

Anytime you compress video you will lose quality,it's best to keep them in MPEG-2.
There are plenty of guides to the left how to convert to Divx/Xvid.
