Hi forum, I just had a quick question about MKV files and an error that I get when trying to extract the subs using MKVExtract. When I try to extract the subs, I get the error: Unsupported CodecID S_VOBSUB. I have done alot of searching on the Internet and it looks like most say you cannot extract the subs out of MKV files that are made this way. Is there anything I can do to get the subs out of the MKV file or is it not possible at this time?

    It should.
I can only suppose you're using an outdated (very) version.

Thanks for the reply, I don't know what version the mkvextract is, but the MKVExtract GUI, that is in the same folder is 1.5, if that helps.

45Tripp, thanks as usual. I downloaded all the updated versions (hard to keep track of all this software ).

When I open one of the MKV files up in MKVExtractGUI and click on the Chapter tab it says:

"Error: Unrecognized command line option ''. Maybe you put a mode specific option before the input file name?"

Also, in the mkvextract window in MKVExtractGUI at the bottom, it is trying to extract it with an "idx" extension.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks, Mike G.

    Doesn't happen to me.

It'll extract both .sub and .idx files. Sub is graphical subs, idx is sub timecodes.
You can get text subs using an ocr method with subrip or the old vobsub tool subresync.
