    I am using Cuttermaran 1.68a and TMPGEnc 2.5 so that I can make cuts at B frames. When I make the final cut, for the frame that gets encoded the black level is a little lighter than the frames before and after the cut. I belive that I only see this for the first GOP where the cut is made at the B frame. Has anyone experienced this? Cuttermaran uses a template to envoke TMPGEnc with the encoding settings. I have looked at this "Mpeg2Template.tpr" file to see if I can make a few changes but I don't understand the files command structure. TMPGEnc has a brightness filter that I thought I could adjust so that encoded frames would look closer to the original frames before cutting.

    You can see it when you're playing back ? The blacks are probably being crushed to TV specs rather than PC specs when Tmpgenc encodes. Is there a setting in Tmpgenc that allows you to specify 0-255 or 16-235 standard?

    Yes, I see it during playback on PC and TV. When Cuttermaran envokes TMPGEnc it uses a script file, "Mpeg2Template.tpr", that sets the encoding parameters for the TMPGEnc encoding process. If I want to change how the encoding is done I belive that I have to modify this script. I not exactly sure how to do this AND if this is the correct way to solve this "problem" anyway.

    For grins, you could try out the freeware encoders that work with Cuttermaran and see if this fixes your problem before messing with the "Mpeg2Template.tpr" file.
    Today Cuttermaran supports the following encoders;
    - commercial TMPGenc, provider installed by Cuttermaran
    - freeware QuEnc, provider installed by Cuttermaran, needs a proper installed AVIsynth
    - freeware HCEnc, provider available from Cuttermaran’s site
    - freeware MPEG2Enc with provider CuttyEnc (available from http://www.psimarron.net/Projects/DVD/CuttyEnc/ ).

  5. I know this is an old thread, but ok i had this working once....then had to figure it out again, so i thought i'd put everything i did to get it to work here this solved my problem when i tired to cut on "B" frames and got this error:
    at JMS.InterOp.DVDAuthor.AVIFile.GetSample (Int32 frame number)
    at JMS.InterOp.DVDAuthor.YV122M2V.WaitForExit()
    at JMS.InterOp.DVDAuthor.YV122M2V.WaitForExit ()
    at CuttyEnc.Connector.Encode(DataSet data)
    at CuttyEnc.Connector.Encode (DataSet data)

    Solution....
    1) Install Cuttermaran 1.70 https://www.videohelp.com/tools/Cuttermaran
    2) Download this: http://highpaqnet.bplaced.de/Forum/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=32
    click the
    Datei herunterladen which is download file

    this will give you everything you need to unzip into the cuttermarn folder...
    3) DO NOT tell cuttermaran where to find the mpeg2enc.exe program.....leave the field at the default (double click to select Directory)

    hope this helps...ps figured this out with the help of google translate...

    This page http://highpaqnet.bplaced.de/CuttyEnc/index.html
    translates roughly to

    CuttyEnc can be downloaded from various Internet sites. The programmer is only CuttyEnc available. It is not enough. CuttyEnc requires additional files, so that the cut is working properly on B-frames. The following sections describe the sources of supply of all needed files called and what it needs to be done and is observed.
    Homepage: http://www.psimarron.net

    Download Link 1: CuttyEnc 1.2.0.1

    Download Link 2: dvdauthor 0.6.9

    Download Link 3: mpeg2enc HDTV version

    Download Link 4: CuttyEnc 1.2.0.1 Complete

    The ZIP file from "Download Link 1" contains only CuttyEnc. As described at the outset, that alone is not enough. In addition, at least two files from the "Download Link 2" are needed. The first file is the "mpeg2enc.exe" and the second file "cygwin1.dll". Both files can generally be copied to the hard drive in any directory, but should be in the subdirectory "External Tools" Cuttermaran are installed. This directory does not yet exist, it can get created and the files are decompressed it or copied.

    For the cut on B-frames in MPEG2 HD material to be very specific versions of files "mpeg2enc.exe" and "cygwin1.dll" file. The additional files can be removed from the "Download Link 3". Both files must be in the subdirectory "External Tools \ HDTV" Cuttermaran the installation to be unpacked or copied. Also here is, does not yet exist, the additional subdirectory, can or must it be created there. If no MPEG2 HD material cut, this section can be ignored.
    For simplicity, can also only the ZIP file from "Download link 4 are used and extracted to the root directory of the Cuttermaran installation. There already have all necessary files in the correct directory are included.

    For the two formats "MPEG2-PAL/NTSC" and "MPEG2-HD," as was stated in "Notes in the details" was needed, different versions of files "mpeg2enc.exe" and "cygwin1.dll". The intersection of B-frames will not succeed with an inaccurate and therefore inappropriate version. It can not just blocks of education are at the intersections, but also and / or the error messages to program crashes cutting.
