How do I remove the block effect of shadow changes in the vinal render of the video in H264! i.e. make it very clean as possible. Especially at the lower bitrates. Isnt there a filter for this and if there is does anyone know what settings I need to set? If anyone can help that'd be really great!

If you are talking about block artifacts from low bitrates then there are filters that may help clean up artifacts that have been encoded in, but nothing that will stop your encoder put them there in the first place.

This is probably one of the best for cleaning up already damaged video : http://www.compression.ru/video/deblocking/smartdeblocking_en.html

However to stop your encodes getting these artifacts in the first place you have to give them adequate bitrate.

It's working for me in FF2.x and IE7. Are you behind a firewall ?

Try google and enter MSU Deblocking Filter inthe search.

its also works for me with ff2,

interesting , now i have something else to ponder and wonder about,

I haven't yet tried, to do any filtering using avisynth although i have been wondering about it,

i have a few files that could be improved with the correct filtering

The MSU Deblocker is first and foremost a virtualdub filter. It can be called from avisynth, but it will still be slow.

Let me know when you've downloaded it and I'll erase it from this post. Yes indeed, those MSU guys make some nice deblockers.

There are many great Virtualdub plugins out there. The Russian ones are especially good. Too bad most VDub plugins are pretty slow.

Here's a very nice pack of them. Slow download, but small file (250K). Try "Smart Skating Rink" - slow as they come, but a very high quality smoother.
