  1. I used CamStudio to record a 26min clip. In the process of converting to .avi after ending the recording, CamStudio crashed.
I am left with 2 .wav files. I can retrieve the audio recording from the smaller .wav file (270mb) and retrieve the video recording from the other .wav file (3.91GB) using MediaCoder and VirtualDub. Is there any way for me to merge these two files into 1 single .avi file?

  2. Hm,
I remember using an obscure program for this with some strange name.

Still, VirtualDub should be able to do this.
Try merging the files, audio and video, with this solution:

"Open the video file you want and select 'Audio - > No audio' to remove the audio (1) or 'Audio -> WAV Audio...' to load a wav file in your video (2). Then you can select the video and audio codecs and save your final video file."

When all was said an done, the result was an over sized 3.6gb avi file that i could not open the file with any of the common video players or video tools..... Until i tried using mediacoder.

believe it or not, this tool was able to open and play the file in its original form without issues. I'm now in the process of converting it to a smaller file using this tool so i'm not sure how its going to turn out, but i have high hopes for a successful conversion.

give it a shot and see if it works for you as well!

The answer is Format Factory!! I had a video i needed of a motor vehicle accident and it was corrupted as the video stopped without shutting down and closing the file. Nothing would open it. Format Factory did easily in seconds. Thank you thank you donation on its way. http://www.formatoz.com/

  8. Hello all.

Just wanted to mention that I had similar problem and was able to recover the avi file using Format Factory.

The avi while was close to 4gb (recorded using CamStudio). The corrupted file was not being read by vlc and other players.
I used Format-Factory (FF) to convert it to mp4 format. FF failed many times. Then realised the trick - for that I saw how FF works. FF converts the file in two stages - (1) first it converts the given 4gb file to smaller size avi file (in my case it was 200mb). (2) then it converts this file to mp4.
Usually, for stage (1), the progress bar shows around 80%. After that, it was failing. So, I kept the output folder open and waited for progress bar in FF to show 80%. After the completion of stage (1) and when stage (2) is about to start, a mp4 file is created. Immediately pause the conversion process in FF. Copy the smaller avi file - which is playable!
