I have several mpg files that play ok but -

If you play them in Winamp you can't jump forward or backwards in the file. As soon as you touch the position bar the movie restarts.

If you play them in Windows Media Player then you can jump around in the file ok

I have tried running VCDGear in repair mode in case there was a file fault, but none was found.

I think I understand the "very" basics of the coding, and can't see why you can't jump between master frames. There is obviously more to this that I don't understand

Can someone explain please and is there a way to get Winamp to do this. It does everything else I have ever wanted it to do. I really don't want to use WMP

    Thanks

  2. What is the source of these files? Some sort of capture, perhaps?

There are lots of little items with MPG that can cause this result, how you handle it depends on the source of the files.

If created on your PC, some simple steps like closed GOP or audio types may solve it. The real answer is to find a software that plays the files adequately. If the file won't play, it does not matter how much you like the program's interface.

If the files were created elsewhere, and this source will vary, there really is no answer as what works for one may not work for another.

Try VLC, WinDVD, Ulead movie player. There are many other players.

Just re-checked you specified Winamp failed and WMP worked. What that means is that Winamp failed and WMP worked. The file is not the problem. I had similar issues with Winamp. Abandoned the prog within 5 minutes to find something which worked. Have chosen WinDVD simply because FF is easily accessible with a wireless keyboard.
