There is a flash video file on a webpage that I'm trying to grab. I tried in Safari to open the page, open the activity window and download it that way. But it's hidden in a XML command. When I find the URL in the XML, it won't let me connect.

So, I tried Unplug in Firefox, but it only shows the player and not the FLV file.

I tried ScreenMimic and ScreenRecord. Neither will capture the audio and the video is slightly jerky.

Any ideas? How can I get this file?

Load the page in iCab. Choose the Cache Browser from the Tools menu. This will open a new tab/window. On the left hand side of that window you will see a pull-down menu. Choose 'video' and iCab will list all the video files from the page you loaded. Locate the file you want and click on the arrow to download it.

try this site, I've had good luck with grabbing flvs with it.
But, if it doesn't work because of the way the
file is embedded, then yes Millwood is corect,
you will have to "hijack" it with iShowU.

Terry's hi-lited first line *IS* the link.

I'm fond of the free SafariStand:

    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/26421

In Safari, when the video has finished loading, command-click
on the video. That downloads the FLV file. I then mostly use
the freebie iSquint (isquint.org) to convert to MP4.

I think pixel zombie was referring to the file that whoisguilty is trying to download, not the link that terryj provided

    Unfortunately, I can't post that.

SafariStand didn't work. It told me that the video was downloading, but it said that for an hour.

Any other ideas for screen capturing video? None of the software has worked. It has given me a jerky video and/or no sound.

Did you try iCab? It should give you the file 'as is'. If you are getting no sound or a jerky image then perhaps it's the player you are using.

In Firefox, bookmark the video, close all the open windows and clear all your personal history (cache, cookies, url history, etc.).

Open your users' Home folder>Library>Caches>Firefox>Profiles>the folder on the right ending in .default.

Make an alias to the Cache folder inside that '.default' folder and put the alias on your desktop.

Now go to the site and play the flv at least half way.

Click on the alias and open the Cache folder and then open _CACHE_001_ in textedit.

Read through to the bottom and cut and paste the flv file location into a new browser window and save the file.
