I've just borrowed some VCDs from China and was astounded to find they claim to have AC-3 or Dolby 5:1 sound. Some really do have two audio streams, Cantonese on the left channel and chinese on the right.

While I believe the claims of AC-3 are just over-enthusiasm by the Vendors, I would really like to know HOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO CREATE TWO LANGUAGE STREAMS ON A VCD?

Thanks for any help that can be offered.

Right audio channel one language and the left channel another... Just mono sound then though... You probably need to use a sound editor and cut and paste into the different channels...

Does anyone know how to do that?

  4. Most of this should be reasonably self-evident...

Rip your movie then separate rip the two audio streams...

Convert the two soundtracks to uncompressed PCM WAV mono.

Use an audio editor like CoolEdit to copy one language to the left channel and one to the right channel.

    Save.

Encode this dual language wav file to MP2 audio (as used on VCDs) at 224 kbit/s.

Multiplex the audio with the video.

    Regards.
