  1. Hello all:
Here is my problem. I have a massive DVD collection, and want to convert my DVD's to Xvid format for use with my HTPC, I.E. XP-MCE. Right now I'm using is DVD Decrypter for ripping then using DVD2AVI2 to convert to AVI using Xvid as my codec.

    1st Question:
The problem is the audio track. After converting I get great picture quality and file size I want, but no audio. What am I doing wrong?

    2nd Question:
As I'm on a limited budget, (Disabled) is there other free software out there that can accomplish this task... Not that I'm cheap, just on a very limited income.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks:

Rip with DVDDecrypter or DVDFab Decrypter and convert with AutoGK or FairUse Wizard.

I like FairUse Wizard for simplicity. There is a celtic_druid freeware version on the toolpage that works very well. AutoGK is more configurable, but a little harder to set up.

FUW works well, but newer DVDs may require a program like DVD43 or you may need to use RipIt4Me and conversion to ISO format for FUW to accept the file. But you can use freeware programs for all the steps.

The nice thing about FairUse Wizard is that it offers a good balance for beginners and experts alike. There is a 1-click mode that does a very good job. It also allows a more expert user to set it up just the way they need.

A limited version of FairUse Wizard with a maximum file output size of 700MB is free. 700MB is big enough to do quite a good job outputting an XVID file of the movie only of a DVD. The full version is only $10 or so.

  5. Thanks to all, I'm going to try Fairuse Wizard. (Havn't yet) but AutoGK worked like a dream. The only thing is it reformated the video size to 512 width. Is there a way in to set the video size in AutoGK?
