VIA IEEE 1394 Card not Recognising Samsung VP-D361i

Hi,

I have just purchased a IEEE 1394 Card - brand Ritmo. Windows detected it and installed and it is in device manger as VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller and working properly.

My Samsung VP-D361i camera came with Ulead Video Studio V9 which I have installed but when I go into capture it will only find my ATI Radeon card and no other source. I have looked in device manager under sound and video game controllers and there is no reference to my camera. I also loaded the Samsung DV Media Pro Driver 10 from the Samsung site and still no good.

Can someone please let me know if I have a driver issue with the IEEE card or if it is my camera.

When you check, have you connect the Cam to the Ritmo 1394, and turn on the cam and put it in playback mode ?

You can also use WinDV ( from tool section ) to detect you DV cam. ( After connect the Cam to the Ritmo 1394, and turn on the cam and put it in playback mode. )

Are you able to connect the Ritmo 1394 to firewire DVD burner or Harddisk ?

There are lots of compatibility problems with firewire cards. Try another card with a different chipset.

A: Check for motherboard driver updates , and install them first .
B: Upon insertion of card ?

Onboard agp / agp slot / pci1 share resources = only one may be in use / fitted .
Pci2 / pci3 = share resources , only one may have a card installed .
Pci4 / pci5 = as above .

If you have a motherboard with only 3 pci slots available , then this gives either pci2 or pci3 available only .
If card fails to connect to device while connected to pci2 , it may need moving pci3 to resolve issue .

Should card need to be moved from present position on motherboard , you should uninstall the drivers for the device before shutting down the system and removing it , and always remove system power cord prior to removing / reinstalling device .

This is how ieee devices should be connected to prevent damage to connected devices and pc at all times .

C: Install the software that was supplied with camera (one contains the drivers for it) .
D: Shut down pc .
E: Connect cable to camera , then to pc .
F: Turn camera on , and set required mode .
G: Lastly , turn the pc on .
H: Capture from there .
I: When done with capture , shutdown pc , disconnect camera .
