A Few years ago i used to do loads of encoding and backing up my DVD's into VCD while others did to SVCD variations or DivX which is to say the victorious format since DVD Players can handle most of it.
But the question is this, do you still encode these days to one of the "old" formats? quite honestly i did not encode any movie for nearly 3 years now.
I've just about bought, yes yes i know it sounds horrible, but i admit it. I Bought loads of movies in the last few years, and to be honest i'm rather proud of myself for no good reason
How about you guys? do you encode? or maybe even just download ready movies or do you buy? 8)

Morning guys.
Sefy, those sure were the days.
I've just about bought, yes yes i know it sounds horrible, but i admit it. I Bought loads of movies in the last few years, and to be honest i'm rather proud of myself for no good reason
for the past 2 or 3 years, now. I have a rather large dvd collection, now, too.
But, I still do lots of Capture and Encode. It's the challenge for perfection..
not that we'll ever reach it. But its nice (enticing) at times to go yet another
round. Its a far cry from the good old days of my Dazzle* DVC USB, which was a
hardware VCD MPEG-1 encoder. And I still have it
So, no, I don't still encode to VCD/xVCD or sefyVCDexcept for fun or other
reason.
These days, fwiw mentioning here, I engage mostly in various types of DVD encodes
from mostly DV captures (advc) and that has included the latest, now HDTV. That
however, has not been as successful as I had hoped.
For instance, my Polaroid DRM-2001G dvd recorder features HDTV recording
ability through its component INPUT, but is restricted to 480i, which isn't so
bad. But there is an issue with its color space being YPbPr format, and that
messess up the MPEG when brought over to the pc for further (re-encoding) to
a new DVD standard mpeg. The color space (from this unit) in this area are
complete off, and tweaking them is too much of a hassel to bother with.
Now, I've given in to the idea of moving from WIN98 to XP, but only because this
is the only supported OS for HDTV anything. And, as we speak, I'm currently
enganging in building a new pc and xp project, just for Video but will now
include HDTV. And at this time, I'm considering starting experiments with
the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 hdtv/analog tv capture card. I started a
thread over here:
--> I'm Finally ugrading my OS and Computer to Win XP Home !!
I'm also playing around with H264 (x264) encoding. But for DVD comparitable
quality, I've also been dabling with XviD, set to highest quality level
of 1. As it turns out, this setting yields DVD results, but with 1 to 2 mb size,
less. Haven't dicided its final outcome, but may have a purpose in demo'ing
certain video situations.. ie, movie previews/trailers/debuging, etc.
Other than that, I Buy, I HDTV, and Encode
Good to see you still around, old friend.

I'm actually on a different switch now, going to the open source market or more basicly using Linux OS at every chance i get. I've been trying Mandriva, Kubuntu, Fedora Core and at the moment i've quite found home using openSUSE which is simply amazing and gives HTPC functions using the free MythTV.
But as i've mentioned, if i like a movie i simply buy it when it becomes cheaper. I've even been trying to track down the "good ol" tv shows of the 80's such as Tarzan and Flash Gordon and others
I think my last encoding was to DVD format for my "Spiderman and his Amazing Friends" and "Megas XLR" which are the series i downloaded.Email me for faster replies!

I use Blockbuster/Netflix formats.
But I still cap Super Bowls, World Series, NBA & NHL playoffs and the like."There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon." -- Raoul Duke -
Wow, i'm sure out of loop
What on earth is Blockbuster / Netflix formats ?
I Thought Blockbuster were one of those video rental thingiesEmail me for faster replies!
