hey all, i was wondering if there a player that'll decode divx for playback?
i want to take some vids to work, and can't install anything, even codecs. so i'm trying to find (if there is such software) i can install on my thumb drive that'll play divx without needing the codes..
thanks,
maiof

Install VLC Media Player - Plays most Video Types without need to download codecs - Plays DIVX/XVID files like a dream.

As Neil1970 said, VLC's a good choice. There's a version made specifically for thumb drives at:
http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/vlc_portable
I've used it at work with no problems. -
you guys rock!!! thank you very much.... just saved me hours of converting and about 3 dvds. lol

Media Player Classic doesn't include Divx or Xvid codecs so that won't work unless you can install codecs on the host computer.
VLC and KMPlayer usually come as install programs that must be installed on a computer. But once installed you can copy the the whole program folder to a thumb drive and run the program from there on any computer. Both have many built-in audio and video codecs so usually no codecs have to be installed on the host computer.
The VLC folder is 940 MB in size. KMplayer is a much more manageable 38 MB. -
Yeah, VLC's only 30.5MB on my hard drive. Maybe you misplaced a video file somewhere in your VLC folder
. The portable version of VLC on my thumb drive is just 12.2MB. The PortableApps people compressed the exe's and dll's with UPX. They may have left a few files out, too; I don't know.
But size ain't everything. I like KMPlayer more than any other player I've ever tried, and that's quite a few.
You can even add the Real's dll's to KMPlayer so you can play real media files with it; something VLC won't do.
I did the UPX thing with my KMPlayer install (v2.9.3.1214) for my thumb drive. The size on my hard drive is 38MB; on the thumb it's 22 (the KMPlayer.exe file went from 5.0MB down to 1.8, and then there's a couple dozen dll's to be squeezed). Helps with loading time off a slow-ass thumb drive.
