I've got a PS3 on order. and there are some limitations. First off, whatever converter I need, I need the option of splitting files into 2-3GB parcels. Reason being, PS3 only supports FAT32, therefore, my external drive is FAT32.

There are some pre-fab video converters for PS3, but they have audio limitations. I want to preserve the audio channels such as AC3, DD 5.1, or DTS.

I need to convert my files:
    - my own personal DVD movies (lets hope i can upscale)
    .AVI
    .MKV

    into the following formats:
    MP4 with 720P/1080i
    MP4 with 720P/1080i DTS
    MP4 with 720P/1080i AC3
    and so on...

Can someone help? thank you in advanced!!

You can use video demultiplexers, see our Tools section, to rip out the audio and then multiplex/add it back to the new video after you converted to the ps3 format.

If that is too much work wait for new converters...or get a real HTPC instead.

And it would also help if you told us what tool you have tested like ps3 video9, handbrake, etc.

    But I don't think mp4 supports ac3 audio...see http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=23084&page=3

Thanks for the reply. I'm willing to do whatever it takes, without getting a HTPC

The video converters I've tried are PS3 Video 9 and PS3 Video Converter (from mp4converter.net). Both have limitation factors of 2-channel audio.

I might've found an alternative format m2ts, but i'm not sure if it will work based that the forum is lacking multiple threads
