Do VCR have a region lock? I have a few tapes which do not play on sony VCR slv-n55. these are my old home videos from India. Is is a region code issue ot NTSC / PAL issue. any way to resolve it?

India is PAL. If your tapes were produced there they will be PAL also.
If you purchased VHS player in US it will be NTSC.
You can have tapes converted to NTSC in some video repair shops around your neighborhood or look for a player that play both, but good luck these dyes for VHS.
Like guns1inger say, there is no region on VHS only format. -
Best option is to send to a service that specializes in video transfer, and offer VHS PAL > VHS/DVD/etc NTSC. Or vice versa, if needed.
