I know you can go in a change them all one by one but i need to get like 20-30 video clips and make them all 2 or 3 secongs long.

    Which programs can do this.

I'm not exactly sure what're asking here? Do you want to speed up the video (i.e., framerate) so that the video plays in 2 or 3-seconds? Or do you want to cut out and only play the first 2 or 3-seconds of each video?

Either way, you could process all the videos at once using AVISynth to accomplish either of the two. AVISynth is free (and very powerful) but does have a learning curve.

No, I just want to have a lot of picture and video clips all lined up and i want to be able to select them all and make each individual clip a certain length.

I dont want to have to go in a reduce them all by themselves i just want to select all of the clips, set a time, and have all the clips play for that amount of time.

How can i do this in sony vegas 7, or what program will let you do this?????

Here's an exotic solution for a DVD source:
DVDRemakePro has 'export test DVD' mode in which it creates test version of a DVD with each chapter lasting 5 seconds (can't remember if that value is customizable). Before this you can set e.g. auto-chaptering in TDA at re-authoring.

I would suggest looking at something like mencoder that can be scripted. Perhaps PM Soopafresh to see what he might know of - he seems to be the current scripting guru for commandline work.

I think you need to tell us a little more about your sources. When you say you have a clip that needs to be 3 seconds long, I immediately want to know how long the clip was originally. Clip generally refers to video. If you have a 10 minute clip that you want to be 3 seconds, you're going to have to cut a lot of it out.

On the other hand, you might be talking about having a folder full of images that you want to display every 3 seconds in a slide show fashion. Not really sure. Give us a little more info.

Did you PM Soopafresh like I suggested ? Perhaps you just need to accept that there isn't a simple way to do what you want to do, and not get snippy at people trying to help, for nothing, in a free forum.

    Look its very simple
I have many many clips, and i want to select all of them at once and make them all a specified length.

Im not sure how to dumb it down any more

Lets say these are my clips: 123456
They are all connected but their individual clips, i want to select all of them and set a length that they will all play for, so they will play like this 1(2secs)2(2secs)3(2secs) and so on.

Does anyone know of any program that allows one to do this. Be it adobe, vegas, or anything at all.

  10. It still is not clear

Let's take 6 clips, as you suggest, and let's assume they all have different lengths:

    1. 5 seconds
    2. 8 seconds
    3. 2 seconds
    4. 7 seconds
    5. 6 seconds
    6. 4 seconds

    (So, in reality, you have one video file that is 5 + 8 + 2 + 7 + 6 + 4 = 32 seconds).

You want all 6 clips to start playing at the same time and you want them to play for 2 seconds.

Take Clip 1 - it is 5 seconds long. Do you want to play just the first 2 seconds or do you want the whole clip speeded up so it only takes 2 seconds to play the whole clip?

If you can tell us which option you are after, it will help tremendously.

Also - are you looking for a solution that will display 6 separate windows (for the above example), know the starting points for each and just play away - i.e., no splitting the original file into multiple files and then having to run multiple copies of a media player?

If you're using a batch converter like Cleaner, ProCoder, Squeeze, DigitalRapids, etc., I know there are usually settings for clip length. This could be used to trim each source to a given (same) length.

But then again, you have to tell us MORE (not LESS).
Smarten it up (engineer-style), not dumb it down.

You have another post asking essentially the same thing, but for Vegas. You mention in that post, but strangely not this one, that you are doing stop motion, so I assume you are shooting a few seconds per frame, then trying to trim these down to assemble the actual shot. Is this a fair description ? Just trying to put a context around your request so other can understand where your requirements come from.

Yes im trying to make a stop motion.
I dont need to speed up or slow down the video at all, in reality im just filming a stationary shot for a few seconds many many times and then i want to trim all the shots down to a second.

Have you looked at some of the stop motion software for DV cameras ?

    http://www.stopmotionworks.com/stopmosoftwr.htm

This seems to be one of the few free solutions : http://www.giantscreamingrobotmonkeys.com/monkeyjam/features.html
