    Hello all,

I've encoded a DVD from an AVI file using nero vision, it took 3 hours but finally it came out OK.

Now the DVD is burned but the video seems to be running at half speed when the sound is running at normal speed, so there is a gap which is increasing as the movie goes on...

I've reextracted the files using Dvd Shrink 3.2 (3.17 would not extract them and was blocked at 99%) but how can i control my VOB files before burning the DVD again ?

Also can you explain to me what went wrong so I'll be less stupid for the next time ?

    Thanks

  2. The audio was most likely VBR MP3 which can go out of sync easily when re-encoded to another format. You can either use VirtualDub to save the audio track as WAV and encode the video using that audio track. The easiest option is to use ConvertXToDVD. It was made specially for doing what you want. Unfortunately Nero is just not a good encoder.

    Thanks for the tips.

So basically is it easier to extract the wav using virtualdub and remux the wav in to vob files (how do I do this into VOB files ?) or to reencode my file using convertxtodvd ?

If I want to encode files in the future what is a good encoder ? I ised to play with tmpgenc 2.5 but it crashed my computer (frozen screen) and took VERY VERY long to encode (10+ hours)

    Thanks for the help

  4. For what you want to do I highly recommend ConvertXToDVD. It will save you a lot of headaches. All you do is point it to the file you want and it will recode it to DVD and you're ready to burn. Very simple to use.

Why not take the easy way out, and get a DVD player that also plays DivX/XviD AVI?

I've tried convertxtodvd and it's true it's REALLY easy, even for me...

I'd like to be able to customize the menus of the DVDs created by convertxtodvd (now that I've got the "simple" thing sorted out), can I import th VOB files created by convertxtodvd into another program (which) that would allow me to create menus.

One thing I loved about nero vision was the possibility to make an animated button with 10s of the film looping, is there a tutorial to make such a thing ?

About the divx player that'd be the easy way for sure but my player is good, takes 2 discs at once and does not play divx, I'll keep that in mind when I change the player eventually...

    Thanks for the help

Some authoring apps (like TDA) can use an already authored DVD as source mtrl, yes.

You can use TDA to create menus and import the VOBs from ConvertXtoDVD, although I don't think it will make motion menus for you.
    Read my blog here.

If you like NeroVison simply add your ConvertX VOBs and create your menus and chapters. I use NVE3 and with 'Smart Encoding' ticked it doesn't re-encode ConvertX's VOBs for me.

$30 after rebate is hard to beat, watch for it on sale. Thin tray so not great for younger kids, but fine for everyone else. Plays VBR correctly, unlike my older Philips 642. Versus changing over even a small number of discs the $30 is well spent. Suggested to several friends, and everyone is happy with it, should at least get one and give it a try before bothering to convert many divx files.

Thanks for the tip, however I'm in France so going to the states to buy a player is going to cost more than $30

I have a discount store offering some divx/xvid player for 40 euros, will check it out...
