I'm trying to burn dual layer dvd's. Yesterday, the burner created $7.99+tax worth of 3 DVD+R D/L coasters .

    #1 - I zipped thru ImgBurn to create a D9, but verify failed .

#2 - I rechecked my settings, tried again, but verify failed again .

#3 - I went and got the guides from the ImgBurn burn forum, followed them to the letter to make sure my setup was correct, and tried a third burn. Again, the burn appeared to go smoothly until the verify step where it again failed . This time I took a screen shot of the error message.

Anyone got a clue for me as to the problem??? The dvd drive specs are for DVD-R DL Write Once - 4X and DVD+R DL Write Once - 2.4X .

    David

PS - If I click 'continue', it comes up with the same error with the next sector , ad finitum.

    1) What brand of DL discs did you use? Were they +R DL or -R DL? It makes a HUGE difference and if you use -R DL, you may not know that the layer break in -R DL must be set speciallly. ImgBurn's default is to use a layer break the way +R DL does it and unless you are very lucky, more often than not this will fail on -R DL discs. Also, please do not use any brand of DL discs except DVD+R DL by Verbatim. Other brands aren't as reliable for DL media.
    2) What speed did you burn at? Sometimes a lower speed helps, but 2.4X should really be OK if you used DVD+R DL discs.
    3) Check to be sure that your DVD burner hasn't somehow slipped into PIO mode, which will cause it to timeout.

What brand of media and the media ID.

In my experience only Verbatim (MCC) DL media works.

The media was Memorex DVD+R D/L. Disc ID: RITEK-D01-01

I selected the layer shift point as recommended (blue star) by ImgBurn.

I set the burn speed at 2x, but ImgBurn proceeded at 2.4x.

PIO ??? Do I check this in the control panel/system window??

Memorex media is bad. ONLY use Verbatim. This is probably your problem.

You selected the layer break correctly. Again, DVD-R DL is weird and requires special settings. That doesn't apply here.

To check PIO mode, start the Device Manager and check your IDE/ATA/ATAPI Controllers. Check the Primary and Secondary IDE Channels. Double click on the channel and then select Advanced Settings. Transfer mode should say "DMA if available". Check all settings to be sure nothing says "PIO only".

Memorex media is almost certainly your problem.

The IDE channels were set to 'DMA if possible' so that should not be the problem.

I'm glad MJA gave the OfficeMax reference.... I made a run to Fry's with a stops at Office Depot and CompUSA and all they had was Memorex, Sony, TDK, LG, and Toshiba brands. Now I wish I had looped by OfficeMax on the way back - I just called them... 2 in stock! I'll get there in the next day or so. I'll let y'all know what happens with the Verbatim.

Another vote for Verbatim. I just tried a three pack of Memorex DVD+R DL and 2 out of the 3 three discs were coasters. My previous burns with a Verbatim 3 pack were 3 good burns out of 3. Both brands were burned using Imgburn.

    Success !

I got by OfficeMax and picked up a package of Verbatim +R9 discs over the weekend. I redid the img file to make sure I had it done for +R9 and popped a disc in the burner... and crossed my fingers. I came back a while later to find the 'successful completion' box showing on the screen. . Here's another vote for the Verbatim +R9 discs.
