    Ok, lets start:
    I'm part of a fansub.
We actually buy the DVD's, decompile them, burn the subs into the m2v
and then rebuild the DVD so we can show it for free.

Until a few days ago, we do so using tmpegenc and vobsub,
we dont know how it was working, so far, we only activate/deactivate
codecs and the vobsub will come up and burn the subs into the m2v
and everybody was happy, because they had the best quality we could see.

As I sayd, a few days ago, we had to reinstall our OS's
(me and a friend who was able to burn the subs into the m2v) and all the magic
    was gone.
No matter how hard we try, we could not bring up vobsub anymore when we try
to pass the m2v trough tmpegenc.

We're using now maestroSBT, but the subs lack lots of quality.

I came here to ask about the best way to add or burn subs into a DVD
from a m2v source, trying to keep the quality at maximum adn not losing video quality.

    Thanks for the help.

Then just don't hardsub. Use 'real' subtitles (switchable) and (if necessary) create them as 'forced'. Reauthor the original m2v together with the subtitles and there can't be any loss in video quality, as the video stream isn't changed that way.

It was the way that we do so, using tmpegenc, we burn (or maybe I should say re-author)
the m2v and the subs together, normally the resulting file was 1/3 larger than the original.

But, we used tmpegenc for that and now we cant, I dont know why, since the machines
are the same, but when we pass the m2v into the tmpegenc, it does not load the subs.

If there is other way to load .ssa subs into a encoder (o transcoder) to burn the subs,
or get a better quality on the hardsubs, we would use it, that's why I come here to ask about.

    Thanks for the reply.
