The only remote I'm aware (and I'm sure there is something else), is the remote for the AIW cards. Support for the remote is built into the AIW TV/media player software.

There is also support for a remote in XP Media Center Edition. The bottom line is that remote support is part of a software package (usually based on TV/media playback). I don't believe windows on its own supports remotes.

  3. You can build an IR transmitter/receiver for around $20. Then you can use any remote you have around the house with free software or shareware and payware. I am using my Pinnacle remote (only because I had one and it came with an IR receiver) along with IRAssistant free software.

I am using the Remote that came with my Pinnacle PCTV PRo capture card. It looks like this:

The IR receiver connects via serial connection. It looks like this:

Check out www.lirc.org for schematics (and more information) to build your own IR receiver. Here's one schematic:

Hope that helps. Good luck and please report back with your findings. I haven't looked at this stuff in a year or so.

  7. so i went to radioshack and they didnt have the IR receiver and other parts like the resistors could only be sold in 10 packs. i figured it might be easier to buy a remote and tuner card or buy from this lady who makes them.

but i have one question, if i plan to use IR assistant will i be able to use itunes and other not well known programs (Gom player)

any suggestions of a good remote/AIW card im kinda concerned that if the card fails i wont be able to use the remote cuz its got a special connection not serial

  8. Buy yourself the ATI Remote Wonder, it is programmable and does not require the ATI MMC to work. You can buy it separately. It is an RF remote and works through walls. I have two and use it on multi media center via win xp pro.

The ATI remote has a speparate USB reciever and is not dependant on the AIW card. You can buy the ATI PCI TV WONDER CARD 550 for like $49 with a free MIR for a remote as well.
