okay i just got the new Rogers webstar scientiffic-atlanta cable modem
i hooked it up and disabled my intergated network connection. and enabled the webstar modem
i dont even need the ethernet cord hooked up cuz it has a usb cord that is giving me connection (fire wire im guessing?)
so ive tried to get my computer upstairs to work with my old smc 7004vbr router
and it says on the green lite indicator that the computer upstairs has connection. but when i try to load a site up there it doesnt load.
the network connection says i have connection. yet the sites wont load at all..
ive played with the enthernet cords and the usb cord for hours and i still cannot get the computer upstairs internet to work
ive disabled and enabled both intergrated and webstar modem.
still not working for the other computer
any help please?

Unless I've misunderstood you, it sounds like you have the new modem connected to your pc via usb cable and the pc upstairs is connected to your old router!?
Your modem should be connected to the WAN port of your router, your pc's (both of them), then connect to the LAN ports of the router. The router routes(directs) traffic between the pc's and out to the internet.Google is your Friend -
Yes, the modem needs to be connected to the router. Otherwise the router serves no real purpose.
