  1. Hi,
I recently boucht a sony ps2 and now I'm searching this forum to know wich writer is best for burning ps2 compatible dvd's.

However, I came to the conclusion that it isn't that simple to author a good dvd that works on a ps2.

all I want is to play my pictures(digital photocamera) on my ps2
and copy dvd-movies from family-members(I know it's illegal but he's my father for GODS......)

I just can't believe that sony isn't capable of making a gamingdevice that a little more compatible than this!!!!!!!!!

Isn't there anyone out there that also has a ps2 and a dvd-burner with some good comments????????

Please, tell me, AM I SCREWED

Also if anyone knows some good development sites for ps2 please post a reply.
    Hardware sites....
News of evolution of ps2( like what they are inventing for use with ps2 etc...)

Best regards from a very dissapointed fellow......
    sis

  3. your screwed dude. every question that i have seen on here about anything that has to do with burning something for the ps2 has gotten negative results. although i havn't seen much on here about back-up games but everything else you want to do is still very underdeveloped..........

  4. Yup, I agree with the rest, you are pretty much screwed, but I don't see why the high surprise ? check the DVD Players list and check and see that nearly every SONY DVD pretty much sucks when it comes to flexibility and compatibility.

  5. You might not be screwed. This is a bit of a reach but it might work.

I used to have a problem with a Playstation 1 for which I bought a VCD adaptor. The PS unit would not play ANY VCDs on CD-Rs but played pressed VCDs fine. The I had a MOD chip put into it and they all worked without a problem. Even 99 minute CD-Rs recorded to maximum capacity.

There are mod chips for the PS2 which suggests copied games on DVD-Rs could work (why else would you have a mod chip for it) which might also suggest DVD video on recordable DVDs will work.

There are a lot of mights but if it worked for the PS1 it (hehe) might work for the PS2.

    Have fun.

  6. Hmm, just done some very quick checks and it looks like my UK PS2 will play DVDs I have burned on to DVD-RW using my Pioneer DVR-A03 and VideoPack5.

The movies are mpeg-1 VCD compliant so I don't know about mpeg-2 DVD compliant but I'd be amazed if it didn't play them.

The menu structure I build in VP5 does not seem to work on the PS2, but I am still getting to grips with VP5 and think its menu building is a bit stupid... perhaps it's me who's stupid?

Come to think of it, the DVD I tested this on, the menus are a bit broken on my stand-alone player as well.

I'm sure if you spend enough time investigating, it'll be possible to play moveis on the PS2 from DVD-R/W.

  7. By pure chance I tested a DVDr burned with DVDIT using pioneer A03
on a friends PS2 here in the UK. It worked fine! the disk had 2 mpeg2 movies and a starter menu.

Also this was a cheapo unbrnaded DVD.

    so dont give up yet.
