    You can use vdownloader it downloads the file and makes the conversion to avi

    I use Mozilla and they have a plugin that will do that quite easily.

    With IE, and the YouTube page still open in the browser window, search Temporary Internet Files folder for "get_video*" or "*.flv".

    For myself I usually use a protocol analyzer and sniff the conversation and find the URL and download it directly but thats way overkill.

    Tubesock...for Mac users is the best, it converts to H264.
