Hi there, I'm new and registered here as I can't find a solution to my problem. Hopefully someone can help me =)

Basically, I'm looking for software or anything that will allow me to record a scene from a video on my computer. I have a movie in Winamp file format, and I want to record a specific clip from it, but I don't know how. Kind of like the screen capture thing, except a want to capture a few second clip from the movie instead.

Is there anything out there that will allow me to do this for free? Windows Movie Maker doesn't like the file type of my movie so I can't use that.

    Thanks in advance.

Use G-spot to determine what the file format is and post the information.

It looks like you already have what you need, VirtualDub Mod. Just select the clip and save it out as a 'Direct stream copy'. Use the two arrows on the right end of the panel at the bottom to set the scene length, then 'Direct stream copy' and name the file and 'Save as'. Looks like you could use the AC3 ACM Decompressor if you want to open the audio with VDM.

    And welcome to our forums.

I assumed you have it as it's mentioned in your screen shot. It's not an installed program, it runs from wherever it's stored. It's probably just where you store files from downloads.

But if you don't find it, it's easy enough to download from here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=65889

If you work with AVI type files, it's well worth learning to use. If you look in our 'Tools' section, you will see quite a few guides for it, and the regular VD. VDM can also open MPEG files, filter video, convert and encode to other AVI formats, and is a good AVI editor, among many other things it can do. A great freeware program.

    VDubMod owns.
