The lamp on my InFocus X1 just blew again. This was a replacement lamp I got two years ago. The factory-installed lamp before that lasted about the same.
The X1 has been pretty good, albeit a bit noisy, but it's about CAD$400 all told to replace the the lamp each time, and I'm wondering if there are any really good new projectors under CAD$1000 that might make it worthwhile to upgrade, or should I keep my X1?
I use it with an S-Video connection mainly from a Toshiba RD-XS35 DVD recorder to watch DVDs and analog cable TV recordings from the recorder's hard drive.

Some have successfully modified projectors to take cheaper mh lamps. Check around, sites like lumenlab.com and diyaudio.com have threads that discuss the topic. It may be model specific so there's no guarantee.
