    hi Guys,

Ia m at a loss. I have been fighting all day with creating a simple video file (through jade X) that my psp (latest firmware) can read.

    Let me explain my situation:
I have a VIDEO_TS folder with all the files on my comp. I can watch the movie ok from the folder using dvd player.
I use jade x (Command-R) to put the video(mp2)/audio(ac3) and subtitle file on a directory.
Now, I open ffmpegX 0.0.9x and I set it to the following settings as per a post on this forum:

    FOR 480x272 VIDEO,
    Under the VIDEO tab, choose:
    Video codec - H264 [.MP4] (x264)
Video bitrate - 640 kbit/s (again, this can probably be raised or lowered)
    Video size - 480x272
    Autosize - unconstrained
    Framerate - NTSC (29.97)
    Under the AUDIO tab, choose:
    Audio codec - AAC (MOV/MP4/3GP)
    Audio bitrate - 128 kbit/s
    Sampling - 48000 Hz
    Under the OPTIONS tab, choose:
    Use CABAC - ON
    Constant bitrate - ON
    Trellis (requires CABAC) - ON
    Encoding profile - PSP
    AVC level - 3.0
LEAVE ALL OTHERS AT THEIR DEFAULTS

Of course on the audio tab, I click on "add audio" and select the proper ac3 file.

    I click "encode".

    it encodes successfully.

I open the mp4 file with quicktime and I can watch what I just encoded, but there is no sound!

If I put the M4VXXXXX.mp4 file on the VIDEO dir on the PSP, I get "unsupported data" error.

Looking at the details on the file through the PSP, it says:
    Video Coded AVC -kbps
    Audio Codec -
    Sampling Frecuency -

I have tried everything that I can think of to no avail.

Can someone please help me with this issue? I am desperate...

    many thanks!

    R

The Add audio button is there to allow for a secundary audio stream. I doubt the PSP even supports that. The program will get the primary audio stream from the source file (VOB or MPG).

What you do differs on a few points from what is outlined in the website instruction for encoding for PSP:
You should use the preset selectable in the Target format To field. Try not changing the video codec in the Video tab, leaving it at "H264 [.MP4] (ffmpeg)".
Width x height must not exceed 76800 pixels, so 480x272 is too large.
Not sure if this applies for your firmware, as that gets revised way too often to write lasting specs for.

Well, I just realized that the problem was due to the program basically just needing to work with VOBs. Now I can make a file that will play just fine on quicktime.

But now, after encoding at 368x208, I get a "Corrupted Data" error on the PSP.

I have the 3.30 firmware on my PSP.

Any ideas how to get around this? Can someone post how they get to encode a movie that produces something watchable?

I can't believe how difficult this is turning out to be!

    Many thanks!!

Some people reported that reverting to the previous version of ffmpegX (0.0.9x r1) worked for them.

Finally managed to get a watchable video..yippee!

Thanks for the r1 link and your help.

My last hurdle was getting the file to be recognized as good, until I stumbled upon this on some website

"any MP4-SP files you create, put into the 100MNV01 folder. Any MP4-AVC files, place in the 100ANV01 fold"

I was putting the files on the other folder...

In any case, all is well now.

    Thanks!

I'll post this here, as i havent seen a more recent thread.

I had been using 0.0.9x r2 on my old iBook G4, making h.246 vids that played fine on the PSP. Then I got a MacBook (2.16 C2D, 1GB, OS 10.5) in october and had been unable to make a h.264 that would play on the PSP, always "corrupted data" or file not recognized. Last night, I went back to 0.0.9x r1 and tried converting an .avi....and it worked! I'll post more specifics later, but this is promising. I was getting pretty frustrated having to use PSP video 9 on my crappy windows box.
