Here are some questions I still have about Dvd burning and other file format encoding and ripping
Currently my setup is pretty much alcohol, magiciso, nero, dvd decrypter, dvdfab, vso convertxtodvd, mediacoder to encode and decode.
JMLS - DvD-ROM
Nec dvd burner +4x
Asus dvd burner +-16x
I still have some questions my setup is pretty nice I know there are some programs I am missing though. Could you please tell me what ones?
1. What is the best dvd resizing tool for dvd, xvid, avi, mpeg, resing for any of those to fit in the end any converted file in dvd format.... What I mean is there any program out there that can resize xvids or divx or dvd in general exceptionally well?
2. Does anyone have any good links on dvd overburning and good prices and details on what the best overburnable media is? This is something ontop of file resizing I would love to know more about if anyone hear has any insight I would very much appreciate it.
3. What is the best program for backing and splitting files up? Like if you have a 7 gig dvd game that you cannot lower the quality like you can on dvd movies so how do you split that file in half back it up on 2 dvd's and then later be able to piece those files together and install or use whatever that software was..
Any input on any or all questions greatly appreciated thanks.

1. Resizing? You mean re-encoding? Just use a MPEG encoder and codec for MPEG format and a AVI type codec such as Divx or Xvid for those formats. I use TMPGEnc Plus encoder for MPEGs, but there are quite a few others.
I also use ConvertXToDVD for quick conversions of movies. For Xvids, it depends on what I am doing with them. If it's a DVD > Xvid conversion, I use AutoGK or FairUse Wizard. If it's just a AVI type file conversion, I use VirtualDub Mod and the Xvid or Divx codec.
2. DVDs don't work for overburning. Use CD's if you want to try that. Or just get some DL DVD media.
3. There are quite a few programs for splitting files, it depends on the file and what you want to do with it. DVD Shrink can split DVD files. Most any MPEG editor can split MPEG files. Video ReDo and MPEG-VCR are two popular MPEG editors. For AVI type files, I use VirtualDub Mod.
It appears you are just backing up existing DVDs. For that I just use RipIt4Me, DVD Shrink and ImgBurn. If you are creating DVDs instead, you would generally need encoding programs and codecs, video editors, authoring programs, burning programs, along with some audio editing and other conversion programs.
And welcome to our forums. -
2. Your DVD drive has to be capable.
I think only DVD+R is overburnable. And just so you don't have high expectations:
DVD+R is 4482MB, I believe most of the time when overburning you'll hit a wall at 4600MB.
For 100 odd MB it's probably not worth your time.
Besides by the time you are through you'll probably have enough coasters to fill a block of bars.
look for info at club.cdfreaks.com
my suggestion, split stuff, discard stuff, buy DL media when the occasion calls for it. Use the time you'd have wasted to go to the park and throw around a real frisbee rather than dud media.
3. there is no standard way to do this for games.
you'll need to seek specific info for each game.
it all depends, methods vary. anyway people here mostly deal with audiovisual issues.
unless your specific method includes re-encoding video to create space, it's not likely you'll get much help.
My opinion is that again it's a waste of time. DL
filoforums.com is probably a good place to start where you'll find people whose hobby it is to dissect file structures and split dvd9 games or create dvd from cd.

Wow thanks alot for those informative responses very kind of you.. Ok.. well in the past I have used roxios back it up program and it can pretty much automatically split files and turn a 1 dvd (7.gb) into a 2 dvd back up (4g + 4g). But I got so pissed at roxio because I could never get all the progs in it to work pefectly.. I have tried nero's backup program before but it seems alot different and I dont know if it is as good? Roxio's could split any rar or archived file though so all you have to do is archive it I know that but I was just wondering if anyone knew a good program to do it by hand instead of rely on roxio because you cant install roxio and nero at the same time
