  1. Hey,

I've recently downloaded a HD movie in .TS format which is split into files/segments of 100 megs. I've tried joining the files a variety of ways (DOS copy commands, and a couple of other applications whose names elude me). Everytime the resulting file I get has audio that is usually out of synch. I suspect this might be a cpu/resources problem with the playback, but I'd like to make sure that it's not due to the joining procedure. What do you guys do to join TS files?

Additionally, I get some choppy playback when playing HD files at times. The worst part is the audio usually becomes very out of synch (I'm talking 5-10 seconds at worst). My specs are relatively decent: P4 3Ghz, 1Gig ram, ati radeon 9550 w/ 256mb
It seems like my machine should be able to handle these files. To note, I also playback a lot of MKV files (x264) which sometimes have problems. I've been having lots of problems with an HD Dvdrip that is 720p w/ AC3 5.1. I am using the Community Codec Pack. Any suggestions?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Codec packs can do strange things to your system, so they are never really a good idea.

That said, even with a decent CPU and memory, other factors can cause playback issues.

If you only have one HDD it can be a bottleneck, as the system needs to access it, as well as the video player.

If your HDD is fragmented then the player has to seek all over the disc to get the parts of the video required for playback.

Use VLC Videolan to play back Mpeg2 transport streams. It is uniquely suited to this function.
