I'm looking for a decent dvd player with at least divx/xvid and mpeg4 support to play back anime and movies I've burnt. I'd like something that can playback .mkv files (matroska) or .ogm (ogg vorbis), if possible. I know these formats aren't normally supported, but if anyone knows of a player (regardless of price) that supports these formats -- or can support these formats with proper firmware upgrade, I'd *greatly* appreciate the info. Or if you just have a recommendation of a player that supports typical divx and mpeg4 encodes, I'd appreciate that as well.
Thank you!

You can see a list of players that officially support Divx at their website...divx.com.
For mkv files, you are out of luck. I haven't seen any players that support those. Some players can handle ogg audio, but again, I haven't seen any that handle ogm video files.Google is your Friend -
I don't know of anything that supports MKV and OGM except PCs. Maybe a hacked Xbox, but not any standalone players.
Players that support Divx/Xvid won't just necessarily play anything in those formats. A quick list of potential problems on some standalone players that support Divx/Xvid would be:
1) Files greater than 2 GB in size.
2) Packed bit stream.
3) QPel (Quarter Pixel)
4) MMC with warp points greater than 1.
I'm not saying that all standalone players that support Divx/Xvid will refuse to play such discs (it depends on the player), but these 4 things are often problems for standalone players. Also, I've noticed that some players seem unhappy with bit rates over 2000 Kbps for Divx/Xvid, but again, that depends on the player. -
No offense but if you use a more descriptive title for a post, you will get more responses. A lot of people won't bother to look at a post titled "Need a recommendation". If you used "Looking for a Decent Player" or something similar, more people would look at it and respond.

Thnx for the replies. I really wasn't getting my hopes up for .ogm and .mkv, but I'll look into xbox hacks, jman. Anyone have a player that works (at least marginally well) for subbed anime?
The reason I'm asking is because I'm trying to quit my computer addiction, but I'd rather not give up the anime addiction as well... :/
