Howdy folks, em lets see where to start. Well I've been trying to perfect dvd authoring for at least a year now off and on and I've am seeming to get a grip on things just now. but i read this thread https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=311891 well at least i thought it was that one any who
this guy was talking about ConvertXtoDvD and he said he has separate programs for recoding burning and something else for the moment i was using Nero 7 ultra Edition mainly Nero vision 4 and Nero Express but i noticed that the sync would usually be off in avi xvid etc to dvd and also off when the file contains some pal, because i need ntsc. But ConvertXtoDvd is working nicely now i was wondering if you fellows know of a nice program to turn pal to ntsc?
    anyhelp would be greatly appricated

    Thx in advance.

Frame Rate conversions can be a challenge at times. ConvertX does a fair job at it. If you read the post steveryan linked to, ConvertX is a lot simpler. And if we were talking about the average Xvid off the net, you don't have to worry much about losing quality, the encoding of a regular DVD down to 700MB has done all the damage already.

One other problem to watch for are the audio formats that may come along with a Xvid (Or Divx). Usually you will see MP3 or sometimes AC3 or even Ogg or other formats. Particularly troublesome for Xvid to DVD conversion is MP3 VBR audio. This will often result in sync problems unless handled properly. ConvertX can handle most VBR.

For use with other encoders, you can extract the audio out as a WAV format and encode with that. AC3 you just leave alone, as it is already often DVD compliant. Real Video and Quicktime, along with other lesser used formats can also be difficult. Throw in some bad joins or bad encodes from the original files and some file corruption from the net and it can be near impossible at times to convert to a usable format.

One thing to be aware of, Nero, Nero Express, ConvertX and other similar all-in-one solutions are not really 'authoring' programs, though they do that in passing. The same is true for encoding, editing, etc. The end result is that they do 'everything', but sometimes none of it too well.

A few authoring programs in no real order: TMPEGnc DVD Author, DVD Authorgui, GUI for dvdauthor, DVD Lab Pro, and others are the best to use, IMO.

    And welcome to our forums.
