    It sure didn't take long...

EmTeedee sends us to a blog post for a summary of the latest results in cracking AACS, from the Doom9 forums (as the earlier cracks have been) — after the DVD Security Group said it had patched the previous flaws.

From the DLTV blog: "This time the target was the Xbox 360 HD DVD add on. Geremia on Doom9 forums has started a thread on how he has obtained the Volume ID without AACS authentication. With the aid of others like Arnezami they have managed to patch the Xbox 360 HD DVD add on... It appears that XT5 has released [an] application that allows the Volume ID to be read without the need to rewrite the firmware. This would mean that anyone could simply plug in the HD DVD drive and obtain the Volume ID from any HD DVD without the hassle of flashing it."

if it can be played, it can be cracked. This whole charade is really just a revenue scam. The DVD Security Group is pitching the motion picture industry that they have a "new and uncrackable protection scheme" --- this time. if they can convince the gullible execs in the motion picture industry that they "got it right this time", they cash in. But if it can be played, it can be cracked - period.

Amen and hallelujah, hehe. The charade extends beyond the DVD world, though. I've been with the same government contractor for over 20 years ... moving from a time when automation was in its infancy to a time when automation is the only game on the workroom floor. And each time a new machine came out, it was supposed to be the next best thing since sliced bread :P - a panacea that would solve ALL our problems (until the next machine came out, of course).

Simple law of physics ... for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Panacea solutions only exist in Fantasyland ... be it for DVDs or automated equipment. And every time a better mousetrap comes out, the mice just get smarter. 8)

As far as I know, no system can not be cracked, sooner or later.
