I have a DVD-R of an old futbol game. My G5 DVD player doesn't recognize the DVD, my Toshiba set-top does not recognize the DVD, but my Cyberhome multi-region does recognize it. When I make a backup of the game with Toast the DVD can be copied but it won't always play on set-top DVD players (one of which is Region 2 so I don't think this is a Region problem but I could be wrong). I decided to try MTR to back up, but I get an error message about the VMG file, hit ok, and then get an error message about the I/O file. My sense is that both the VMG and I/O tell the player what to do with the VOB files, and the VOBs should be okay if the DVD plays on my Cyberhome. Is there some way to repair the VMG and I/O files? Or is there some other way to go about fixing this so my backup will play on a variety of players? Or am I out of luck? Thanks.
EDIT: I don't know if a Mod wants to delete this but I searched for VMG before I posted and didn't find anything related to the problem so it might be worth keeping this for future searches. I was able to solve the problem in a very simple way. I created a new VIDEO_TS folder on my desktop and just dragged all of the VOB files off the DVD and into that new VIDEO_TS folder. I put that folder in another Main folder with an AUDIO_TS folder, dragged that Main folder into Toast DVD-Rom (UDF) and it worked. Plays on the G5 and plays on the Toshiba. I never thought it would be this simple.
