1st) Hi all first post please be gentle
2nd) I know I can burn VCD's to CDR & CDRW etc etc but some DVD players will not read CDR's (like mine) but will read CDRW, some wont read CDRW (my mates) but will work on CDR

so then you buy a VCD the disc is pretty good quality and works across the players, I'm assuming the media is of a better quality than the cheap discs you can pick up for nothing these days.

Anyone know where (ideally in the UK but I wont hold my breath) I can get some of the VCD blank media. Or do I need to buy proper Authoring Media ???

basically trying to Author a VCD for a car club in the UK without the headache of cross system compatibility, and the current cost of DVD authoring makes its uneconomical

    thanks in advance

  2. There's no such thing as blank VCD media...

A store bought VCD is professionally pressed (same as a store bought music CD, DVD) and has different reflectivity than a CDR/CDRW, which makes it more compatible - nothing you create in your home burner will have equal compatibility.

That said, depending on how many copies of this VCD you plan on making, it may not be too expensive to have them done professionally, although that is purely a guess, I have NO idea how much that kind of thing would cost.

By the way, what is proper Authoring Media?

  3. As what JJamez said.

Professional VCDs are pressed. To get one of you discs pressed would undoubtedly cost many times that of the DVD movie. The only time you would want to get a disc pressed is if you are mass producing a disc.

There is no such thing as "Authoring media".

  4. i actually came across a place where they pressed cd's a couple of months ago and it wan's t that expensive (about 10$ per cd if less than 100 units). but dvd-r media can be bought for about 5$ a peice and you can probably rent a dvd burner for a day or 2 for 20 bucks or so...
