I have a similar delima; can't decide bewtween the DCR-SR32E and the DCR-SR52E.

Should I be weighing up the extra optical zoom of the cheaper DCR-SR32E ?

The differences seem to be the sensor resolution and lens zoom range. Both have 1/6 " sensor diameter. The 52E has more resolution for video and stills.

25x is plenty of zoom range. The wide end of zoom is more important unless you are a bird watcher. The wide advantage goes slightly to the 32E.

So of the two, I'd choose the 52E for sensor resolution. I'd choose a DV format camcorder in a similar price range to get higher overall picture quality.
