I have an MKV with h264 video and AAC 5.1 audio track.

I use Media Player classic or Zoom player to play all my videos.

I can play the video ok ....but I dont seem to get 5.1 sound.

Anyway of getting the AAC 5.1 sound???

I have my sound card (has ADI 1988a codec... which is HD Digital audio)
outputing via an optical outlet to my AV 5.1 receiver.

    I have AC3 filter installed.

I am only getting 2ch audio at moment....how to get 5.1 sound????

For optical you need AC3 or DTS for 5.1. So unless your sound card supports DTS connect or Doly Live, then you need to enable software AC3 encoding. I believe AC3 Filter can do that. As can ffdshow. ffdshow is probably best since it can also decode aac.

You could also use 6 channel analogue.

Thanks ...I have tried ffdshow....it is decoding the AAC...
and it says its providing 5.1 sound...
....and my AV receiver is indicating this as well ...

No real way to prove it ...but its a solution.

    Thanks for your quick feedback!!!
