    Hi everyone.
    This question pertains to DVD authoring, and something a little off topic too.

    I'd like to develop a DVD authoring application, something like DVD Lab Pro.
    I don't know a lot about how DVDs work. And googling didn't get me anywhere.

    So all I really need is some terms used in DVD authoring so I can find the information. I know DVD Lab uses the term VM commands. But I don't know if that term is used outside of that program.

    If anyone would post some "lingo" or even some websites on DVD application development, I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance,
    Jon

    order the book -- $25,000-50,000 http://www.dvdforum.org/tech-dvdbook.htm

    The DVD-Video specification defines the format of all files stored in the VIDEO_TS directory on a DVD-Video disc (IFO, BUP, VOB). Unlike the physical and filesystem specifications, this information is not officially available. However, there are many sources of information about the DVD-Video data formats! A variety of links are included below.

    * dvd.wwwdotorg.org - Local DVD documentation.
    * dvd-replica.com - The "unoffical DVD specifications".
    * dvd.sourceforge.net - Sourceforge DVD project documentation.
    * pioneer.com - Pioneer's "DVD technical guide".
    * disctronics.co.uk - Disctronics DVD-Video overview (not working)

    There are also a number Open-Source DVD-related projects out there. They all include code to parse, or create, data structures that cover most parts of the DVD-Video specification:

    * dvdauthor.sourceforge.net - Open-Source DVD-Video authoring.
    * Ogle - Open-source DVD playback. Uses Open-source DVD-navigation libraries.

    There are also a number of useful utilities out there that can help you understand the DVD format:

    * IfoEdit and VobEdit tools.
    * DVDTrayPlayer (Need to search the directory listing).

    there was a complete specification of dvd authoring on the web at one time - it was supposed to be a pay site ,

  4. Hey,

    I am the author of QDVDAuthor and I am looking to get a fresh start because I want to port QDVDAuthor to Qt 4.2.

    If you are interested in writing a cross platform application using Qt 4.x and dvdauthor as the main backend, I could help you.

    Let me/us know what technology you are trying to use ...
